Twelve years of it, four inside a Segunda club's performance department and eight with athletes who pay for it themselves. I still coach on the gym floor four days a week, because a programme written by somebody who has not watched you lift is a spreadsheet, not coaching.
Most people who come to me have been training hard for years and getting slower. Almost none of them need to work harder. What they need is a plan that survives a season — one that gets lighter when the fixtures get heavier, and that somebody adjusts when they turn up wrecked on a Tuesday.
How I work
Test before you plan
Three sessions of numbers before a single set is programmed. If we cannot measure it now, we cannot show you it moved.
Programme the season, not the block
In-season lifting is less than you think and more often. The block that works in July is the one that gets you injured in November.
Adjust on the day
You send how you slept and how heavy it felt. If it is a bad week the session changes. That is the part software cannot do for you.
