About

Rodrigo Alcaraz

Twelve years in practice, four of them inside a Segunda club's medical department. Colegiado, insured, and I still see most patients myself rather than handing them to an assistant after the first session.

The reason people come back with the same injury is almost never that the first treatment was wrong. It is that they stopped when it stopped hurting, which is somewhere around halfway. Everything on this site is arranged around that one problem.

How I work

How I work

Load it, do not rest it

Beyond the first few days, rest is what makes tissue weaker. Almost all of the work is loading — carefully, progressively, and earlier than most people expect.

Measure, do not ask

“How does it feel” is not a return-to-play criterion. Strength symmetry, hop tests and movement quality are, and they have numbers attached.

Say the timeline on day one

Even when it is sixteen weeks and you do not want to hear it. The people who reinjure are the ones who were told what they wanted.

Three people, and what actually happened. Including the part where they disagreed with me.

I had torn the same hamstring three times in two seasons. The difference here was that he told me week six and meant it, and would not sign me off at week four when I asked. First season since 2021 I have finished.
Hamstring · 3rd recurrence · returned week 7
Álvaro M.Winger, Tercera RFEF
My surgeon said six months. Rodrigo showed me the criteria, wrote to him, and the two of them agreed on nine. I was furious at the time. My quad was at 74% in month six, which I would never have known.
ACL reconstruction · returned month 10
Carla V.Basketball, LF Challenge
I had rolled the same ankle so many times I thought it was just my ankle. Six weeks of balance work that felt pointless at the time and it has not gone since. Nobody had ever tested it.
Chronic ankle instability · no recurrence in 14 months
Tomás R.Amateur runner, Seville

Questions

Questions

Do I need a GP referral?

No. You can book directly. If I think you need a scan, a surgeon or a second opinion, I will say so and write to your doctor — that is a normal part of the job, not a failure of it.

Do you take insurance?

Yes, most major providers. Bring your authorisation number to the first appointment and I will invoice them directly where the policy allows it.

How soon can I be seen?

Usually within the week, and often within 48 hours for something acute. The times on the booking page are real availability.

Will you store my medical records here?

No. This website takes a name, a contact and a reason for visiting, and nothing else. Clinical notes live in the practice system, which is built for it and regulated accordingly. A website that starts collecting that becomes a data problem, not a convenience.

Can you work with my club's staff?

Yes, and for anything significant I would rather. If you have a coach or an S&C coach, a shared plan is the difference between a return and a reinjury. I will write to them with your permission.

What if the timeline you give me is longer than the one I want?

Then I will give you the longer one anyway, with the criteria attached, and you can decide. The people who reinjure are almost always the ones who were told what they wanted to hear.
